In 2025 we Built a Bridge to the Future by collecting $22,150 for our scholarship fund. Four local students received scholarships totaling $21,975. This year, we are helping our Suncoast Scholars realize their Big Red Dreams.  Our goal is to raise at least $20,000.  Please help our local students by contributing to our scholarship fund.

Every gift, small or large, impacts the availability of money for our students from Sarasota-Manatee who are attending Cornell and who demonstrate need for financial assistance.

To learn more about the amazing students who recently graduated or are currently attending Cornell, view the slideshow (CCSM Members only; please log in first) that was shown at our January 2026 luncheon where we honored our 26 local students and their parents/guardians.

How Our Fund Works

The Cornell Club of Sarasota-Manatee Scholarship Fund is an endowed scholarship fund, administered by Cornell and used to supplement the financial aid given to our local students. Cornell collects the gifts and designates them for local students, decides how to invest the money and how much money is paid out each year, and determines which local students receive the money.

Cornell manages endowed funds like ours to last in perpetuity. To this end, each year Cornell allocates a percentage to determine that year’s payout amount. Below are the numbers for our fund:

Market Value as of September 30, 2025 $665,059
FY 2025 Payout$21,975
FY 2025 Number of Recipients 4
FY 2026 Projected Payout $23,851

The Need

Local students need our help. It costs over $96,000 for out-of-state students to attend Cornell in 2025-2026. The median household income in Sarasota and Manatee counties is $77,213 and $71,385 respectively. Our scholarship fund really makes a difference whether some students can afford to attend Cornell. Additional data from the Census Bureau indicates that 8.5% of persons in Sarasota County and 10.1% of persons in Manatee County live in poverty.

As these data show, it is very difficult for the average household in our area to afford a Cornell education. Our scholarship fund is one means for making our local student’s dream of attending Cornell a reality.

Come join us to send off our area students!

To send-off and celebrate the 2026-2027 school year for all our area students and parents, we are joining forces with the Cornell Club of Southwest Florida to co-host a festive event! We invite all club members to bring your Big Red spirit and join us at an ice cream social on the afternoon of Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Twin Lakes Park Pavilion, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota. You will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with students and parents, while enjoying some custom created sundaes under the comfort of a shaded pavilion!

This event is free, but we do ask that you register so that we have a headcount.
