Reforest a Lost Native Pop Ash Swamp in Myakka City is still on!

The Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast is looking to plant 10,000 saplings in a former native pop ash swamp in the Myakka Headwaters Preserve, Myakka City. Many trees have been lost to historic water quality and quantity problems.  These trees are vital in supporting local orchids and air plants. Replanting the forest will jump start a healing process, improving wildlife habitat and water quality in the Myakka River.

We will join other volunteers to do this and after our hard work we will have a picnic with delicious Publix subs and fixings.

This event is open to folks of all ages!  Bring the family! Anyone under 16 must attend with their parent/legal guardian. Four community service hours are available for students!

You will be outdoors in a Florida forest (might be swampy) so bring the usual suspects; bug spray, sunscreen, water, and closed toed shoes are required, gloves will be provided but bring your own if you like.
