Page to Stage, How New Musicals are Born at Asolo Repertory Theater
Knoxville, based on the Pulitzer prize-winning work of James Agee comes to the Asolo Rep stage this Spring--but that's just the end of the story...
Join us for a discussion on Knoxville with James Monaghan, Dramaturg & Literary Manager, Asolo Repertory Theater. During this event, you will get a behind the scenes look at the creation of a new musical, from the first idea until the curtain goes up.
Shortly after his death in 1955, James Agee's partially autobiographical novel, A Death in the Family, was compiled by an editor and released to great acclaim. It was later adapted into a lauded play titled All the Way Home and, in 1963, a film by the same name. Fast forward nearly 60 years and the story is once again being transformed by some of the greatest theatrical minds of our day. Get an inside look at how the author's original work has been treated, learn the new considerations when introducing music to the story, and discuss how the work resonates today.
Here's a link that shares just a tid-bit of the fantastic music from the show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oj_rGD4feec
Zoom link will be sent in your confirmation email and the reminders the day before and at the time of the event.
There's time before & after the event to socialize with other CCSM members.
